Douces Sagesses Saint-Chinian 2015
Douces Sagesses Saint-Chinian 2015
Bernard Magrez owns four Grand Cru Classé estates in Bordeaux — the only person who does — but some of his most charming wines come from further south, where the sun does half the work. Douces Sagesses is his Saint-Chinian: a Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre blend from the wild hills of the Languedoc, made with the same seriousness he applies to his classified growths.
The 2015 is generous and immediate. Ripe dark berries, the herbal scrub the French call garrigue, a touch of warm spice, and a texture that's smooth, easy-drinking and dangerously moreish. This is the everyday red to keep by the case — good enough for guests, easy enough for a Tuesday, and the kind of bottle that quietly becomes the house favourite.
At the table: Roast chicken, burgers, pizza night, a proper bolognese. It flatters everyday cooking, which is exactly the point.

Sommelier's Note
The 2015 Douces Sagesses Saint-Chinian is the one wine in this cellar genuinely built for spice. Its Grenache-led blend brings soft, ripe fruit rather than firm tannin, so it won't turn bitter against chili heat the way a structured Bordeaux would. Served lightly chilled, its plush fruit acts almost like a berry chutney alongside rendang or satay.
